Description

Air Fryer Sesame Chicken delivers crispy chicken pieces coated in a sweet and savory sticky soy sesame sauce. This quick and easy Asian-inspired dinner is ready in just 30 minutes, perfect for a tasty weeknight meal.


Ingredients

  • 6 large skinless chicken thigh fillets
  • 3 tbsp cornflour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1.5 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder or 2 minced cloves garlic
  • 1.5 tbsp Chinese rice vinegar
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 4 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • sesame seeds
  • chopped spring onions or scallions
  • boiled or egg fried rice

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the chicken thighs and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Combine cornflour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a medium bowl.
  3. Add chicken pieces to the bowl and toss to coat each piece thoroughly with the dry mix.
  4. Drizzle oil over the chicken and stir until all pieces are well coated and sticky.
  5. Arrange the chicken in the air fryer basket and cook at 190C or 375F for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket at least three times during cooking to prevent sticking; cook in batches if needed.
  6. While chicken cooks, mix all sauce ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on high for 3 minutes, stirring every minute, until warm and slightly thickened.
  7. Remove cooked chicken and toss it with the sauce until evenly coated.
  8. Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped spring onions on top and serve with boiled or egg fried rice.

Notes

  • To make the sauce on the stovetop, combine all sauce ingredients in a saucepan and heat over medium, stirring occasionally for 3-4 minutes until it bubbles and thickens
  • You can prepare the sauce ahead by mixing and refrigerating it for up to one day before reheating
  • For extra flavor, add chopped vegetables to the air fryer basket with the chicken during the last 2 to 3 minutes
  • ensure chicken is fully cooked to 79C or 175F internal temperature
  • The recipe has an increased sauce quantity to allow extra sauce for drizzling
  • To reduce sauce, cut ingredients by one third and shorten heating time by about a minute
