- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 large onion sliced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, gently combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until just mixed.
- Form mixture into 6-8 oval-shaped patties about 3/4 inch thick.
- Heat large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown hamburger steaks 3-4 minutes per side until golden and set aside leaving drippings in pan.
- Add butter to skillet with drippings. Sauté sliced onions until softened and lightly golden about 5-6 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over onions and cook 2 minutes stirring constantly to create roux.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and heavy cream stirring until smooth and no lumps remain.
- Stir in garlic powder and simmer 1-2 minutes until gravy thickens slightly.
- Nestle browned hamburger steaks back into gravy and cover tightly with aluminum foil.
- Bake covered for 45 minutes then remove foil and bake 15 minutes more until gravy thickens.
- Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
