- 1/2 cup milk whole milk works best for creaminess
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp soy sauce adds depth without overpowering
- 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup I use Campbell’s for the classic flavor
- 4 cups green beans fresh or frozen or canned thawed if frozen
- 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions French’s brand is traditional reserve some for garnish on top
Instructions
- Fully thaw and drain frozen green beans or trim and cut fresh green beans into 2 inch pieces and blanch in salted boiling water before draining.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or prepare your air fryer to the same temperature.
- Separate fried onions into two portions, reserving one third cup for the topping and using the rest for mixing.
- Whisk together the condensed mushroom soup milk and soy sauce until smooth and blended evenly.
- Gently fold in the prepared green beans, fried onions, and black pepper making sure the onions stay intact for crispiness.
- Spread the mixture in a 9 by 9 inch baking dish and bake for 25 minutes or 10 minutes in an air fryer until hot and bubbling.
- Stir gently then sprinkle reserved onions on top and bake another 5 minutes or 2 minutes in the air fryer until golden and crispy.
Notes
- For crisp tops, broil 2–3 minutes at the end
