Char Siu Pork Lettuce Wraps offer a delicious and easy dinner option featuring bold homemade char siu sauce and tender Chinese BBQ pork. Perfect for a weeknight family dinner filled with vibrant flavors and fresh textures.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 4 teaspoons minced fresh gingerroot
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 boneless pork shoulder butt roast 3 to 4 pounds
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 32 Bibb lettuce leaves
  • Optional toppings Shredded carrots sliced green onions shredded red cabbage and toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Mix the honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, ketchup, garlic, gingerroot, and Chinese five-spice powder in a large bowl or shallow dish.
  2. Coat the pork shoulder roast with the marinade and refrigerate overnight.
  3. Place the pork and marinade into a 4-quart slow cooker, cover, and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours until tender.
  4. Remove the pork, let it cool enough to handle, then shred it using two forks.
  5. Skim the fat from the cooking juices and stir in chicken broth. Thicken if you like.
  6. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker to warm through.
  7. Serve the pork in Bibb lettuce leaves topped with optional shredded carrots, sliced green onions, shredded red cabbage, and toasted sesame seeds as preferred.
